Group Schema Therapy - commencing 2023
What is Group Schema Therapy?
Group therapy is a validated effective treatment for a number of psychological problems and disorders. There are many benefits of group therapy, such as a sense of connection, belonging and normalisation that cannot be achieved in individual therapy.
Group Schema Therapy is a creative approach that draws on cognitive, experiential/emotion-focused, and behavioural techniques. The program is based on the work of Farrell and Shaw in the USA who developed Group Schema Therapy.
Group Schema Therapy works on schema modes which are the different emotional states and coping strategies we use when our schemas are triggered.
Our facilitators, Krystal and Bethany, are psychologists who are trained and experienced in providing individual and Group Schema Therapy.
Why do Group Schema Therapy?
This program will help you to learn about and understand your feelings, needs, and thoughts; the impact of childhood experiences on the present; and provide you with healthy coping skills to try out in the safe and supportive environment of the group.
The goals of the group sessions include learning:
• a new way to understand psychological problems and how to recover from them;
• how to make changes to improve your sense of self, your relationships, and quality of life;
• how to increase your ability to tolerate distress without acting in ways that are harmful to you or others
What does Group Schema Therapy involve?
An individual intake assessment appointment will be completed by our psychologists. This will ensure that group treatment is the right option for you and allow you to ask any questions.
The group is a 12-week program, which runs every week for 2-hours. Each week we will address a schema mode and focus on developing practical ways to respond from your healthy parts of self.
Two adult groups (18-years +) will be facilitated commencing January 30, 2023, and you can select the location and day of your preference:
STAWELL: Monday’s 6PM-8PM, Browne Psychology, 34 Sloane Street, Stawell 3380
BEAUFORT: Wednesday’s 6PM-8PM, Red Robin Wellbeing, 7 Sturt Street, Beaufort 3373
The cost is $100 per week of which for a maximum of ten sessions $22.90 is rebated via Medicare.
We ask that you make a commitment to the whole 12 weeks.
